We have another kind of “me too” movement on our hands. This conversation with Eunice Brownlee blew my mind as she shared her personal experience with domestic abuse and the inequities often found in the family court system. It is enough to experience abuse at the hands of another; but to endure additional pain inflicted by the very system meant to arbitrate justice and provide protection? Disheartening.
BUT conversations like this one change things! Eunice explains the often missed distinctions between domestic violence and domestic abuse - and that information holds the power to liberate many more of us.
I gained an expanded perspective that allows me to contribute to meaningful solutions instead of looking away and simply assuming “it’s all ok” (that’s code for hoping I never have to deal with it myself). This convo is an opportunity to witness another person’s story - thus, delivering more hopeful perspective that invites change instead of preserving the status quo.
